7 best locations for proposal or engagement in Seattle

Planning an engagement photoshoot is such an exciting milestone, and the right location can make your photos extra memorable. Here in Seattle, we’re lucky to have some stunning spots that capture the city’s charm, natural beauty, and unique character. Whether you’re looking for dramatic landscapes, lush greenery, or urban backdrops, here are some top locations to consider for your engagement photos:

1. Discovery Park

With breathtaking views of Puget Sound, the Olympic Mountains, and Seattle’s iconic cliffs, Discovery Park offers endless photo possibilities. This spot has it all: open meadows, forest trails, and a beautiful beach with an old lighthouse. Its diversity lets us capture a range of backgrounds in a single session.

2. Pike Place Market

If you love the hustle and bustle of city life, Pike Place Market is a vibrant, colorful spot for engagement photos. From the neon “Public Market” sign to the cobblestone streets, this historic location offers classic Seattle vibes. The market’s lively atmosphere makes for playful, energetic photos, especially for couples who want a fun, urban feel.

3. Kerry Park

For unbeatable views of the Seattle skyline, Kerry Park is a must. It’s an iconic location where you can capture the Space Needle, downtown, and even Mount Rainier on clear days. This spot works beautifully for sunset or evening shots when the city lights start to twinkle.

4. Washington Park Arboretum

If you’re after a natural, romantic setting, the Arboretum is ideal. With its seasonal blooms, like cherry blossoms in the spring or vibrant autumn leaves, it offers a dreamlike feel. The winding paths, Japanese Garden, and serene lake make it a peaceful place to capture your connection.

5. Snoqualmie Falls

Just a short drive from Seattle, Snoqualmie Falls provides a dramatic, scenic backdrop. The waterfall’s grandeur is perfect for couples who love nature and want a location with a wow factor. The lush, forested surroundings add an intimate, fairytale feel to your photos.

6. Golden Gardens Park

For beach lovers, Golden Gardens Park offers sandy shores, gentle waves, and breathtaking sunset views over the Olympic Mountains. It’s a fantastic option for a relaxed, seaside vibe, with the chance to get some candid, barefoot-in-the-sand shots.

7. Ballard Locks and Botanical Garden

The Ballard Locks combine natural beauty with unique architectural features. Here, we can capture you strolling by the water, surrounded by boats, or in the nearby botanical gardens filled with roses and seasonal flowers. The variety of settings makes this a versatile choice for couples looking for both greenery and interesting structures.

Choosing the Right Location for You

Each of these locations has its own unique feel, so choosing a spot that resonates with you as a couple is key. Think about whether you want a city vibe, a nature escape, or a mix of both. And remember, Seattle’s unpredictable weather can add a special touch—whether it’s a moody, cloudy day or a burst of unexpected sunshine, your engagement photos will reflect a bit of the city’s magic.

my gear

Behind the lens: the gear that helps tell your story.

When you book a photoshoot with me, you’re not just getting a photographer - you’re getting someone who’s passionate about capturing the moments that truly matter. Sure, creativity and experience are key, but the right gear helps me make sure those moments are beautifully captured and preserved for you to cherish forever.

The camera I trust.

I use the Canon R6 Mark II, a mirrorless camera that’s perfect for almost every situation. It delivers amazing sharpness, handles low light effortlessly, and brings out the true colors of every scene. Whether it’s a portrait, an event, or a quiet moment, this camera ensures everything looks vibrant and full of life.

Lenses that make a difference.

The right lens can completely change the feel of a photo, and here are my go-to favorites:

24-70mm – This is my all-around lens. It’s perfect for portraits, events, and capturing all those beautiful details.

16-35mm – When I need a wide-angle shot to capture breathtaking landscapes or large groups, this one’s my choice.

50mm – This classic lens is perfect for portraits, giving a soft, natural look with a gorgeous background blur.

100mm Macro – For those intimate, close-up shots - think wedding rings, delicate textures, or small moments that matter.

Lighting that makes you shine.

Lighting is everything in photography. I use a combination of tools to make sure you look your best, no matter the setting:

Canon Speedlite Flash – This helps me add a little extra light when needed, creating more depth and balance in tricky lighting situations.

Godox LC500R Mini – This little light is incredibly versatile. It adds creative color and atmosphere to my shoots, whether I’m going for a bold effect or a soft, glowing look.

Backup & instant memories.

I always carry a backup DSLR camera just in case, so we never miss a moment. Plus, I love to bring along an Instax camera for instant prints - so you can leave the shoot with a tangible memory right then and there!

More than just gear - it’s about you.

Of course, gear is important, but what really matters is the experience. My goal is to make you feel comfortable, relaxed, and truly yourself in front of the camera. The best photos aren’t just technically perfect - they capture real moments, real emotions, and the connections that make your story unique.
